11 month update...OMG

So this is my 11th month..WOW, I know, I know, its already here and next month on this very day I will be unto the ONE YEAR MARK! I can not believe it!!! It's been quite an eventful 11 months full of growth, cuts and a major combine overhaul... But it all been worth it. I literally wouldn't give up even a nano-second. Even the days when my little nubbies at my temples were hardly growing and looking rather ugly AND I though about shaving it off and starting again...even then I still hung in there because I knew my hair would grow and evolve and mature. All of which it has done and is doing and it makes me sooo happy at what I've got. I love love love my hair and can't wait for more years...Thank god for begin a black women, ya digg! Sometimes I am still; amazed at the progress of my hair. I mean, I knew this all was going to happen, that's what he 2 years of research were for; but nonetheless I am still in awe of black hair. The resilience and transformations out hair can make is really something. I remember being burned out with bald spots and tortured with alcohol induced "cleanses" from relaxers at the tender age of 10 and never thought at 23 I would have the makings of long healthy natural hair and better yet locs. It's very cool to see and I love the process. I say this all the time but I just love to reiterate it: I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO RELAXERS! Hallelujah!


Now to the reason for this post! I was reading an article on Michelle Obama, My love! If you've read post from my archive you know I've highlighted her name a few times! I just adore her. From her style to her "swagger" to sophistication and smarts the women is one point and is a beacon from Hope everywhere! She was the subject of a recent article that I loved. And to top that, she is going to be starring in a comic about raw and organic foods comic! How cool..Especially to an aspiring raw diva. But (back on topic), that got me thinking... Who inspires me... And why? Which further made me wonder..who inspires you? And why are they so inspirational in your life? And speaking on the subject of hair... I've got slight updates on my own!!! I just finished a retighten a few days ago and boy can I say It was not a moment too soon. I had a bout and inch and a half new growth and it felt like forever to finish... but having brought some locks together doesn't hurt. It defiantly helps the progression of the project. I love my locks and I now this is weird but I literally feel bad for those who don't have locks in their life. I think its the mixture of self-loathing that comes with altering ones hair and the simplicity of my mornings while doing my hair. I just love locks so much I think their beautiful but i guess I'd rather everyone didn't have them cause then they'd become some sort of fad like the Afro. OH NO SHE Didn't...its true it might just... Newho I'm gonna leave y'all with this wonderful vid I made. Mind you I only highlighted a section of my hair after I thought to show my hair stylings. I love my hair and am blessed to have been enlightened eough to make the descon to switch it up!

Hello beautiful black people!

I wanted to ask a question and see what you my followers had to say about it.

What kind of man do you attract? Has it changed? Is it the same? Are you married single divorced? How haw your hair journey affected your love life, if at all....

I know me personally I can't speak as well on behalf of this because I went natural at age 13. However, I can say that during my press days I wasn't so much less confident but certainly more cautious of what i did and the limitation on my life led me to have issue with men. As, a cheerleader it was hard for me and my then boyfriend to have intimate encounters (non sexual of course, I was a virgin) but Even simple caressing lead to fear of head touching. the ultimate no no. One particular incident that will forever stick in my mind is one night at a club. It was my freshman year of college and I was back for the summer hanging with my girls in an ultra packed club. I had just gotten my hair pressed earlier that weeks so I knew I was poppin. I was just dancing and chatting and minding my own business when my crush at the time, Calvin H.(Mr. resident everything at Howard; good looking super intelligent, funny and available!!!)who was also from California, walked in. I ran to the bathroom to Gussie my self up only to look in the mirror grief stricken at the unsightly mess upon my head. I was so upset I started hyperventilating and crying.... Yes, crying in the club bathroom on the floor. I stormed out the club as Calvin tried to get my attention. Oh the horror. To add insult to injury, later that night I went to the car, got my flat iron out and began pressing my hair in the ihop bathroom. Not only was it awkward, but the smell was horrendous. After Thai My hair began to break and I started looking for an alternative ASAP! It began with a weave and then liberating myself. It's funny, I stopped crushing on him the next year and he got a girlfriend. A beautiful, chocolate girl, with a TWA!!!!! Yes, had I not been so ignorant I may have learned that he like women the way they are!!! But You live and you learn.

But back onto the men that I attract due to my natural hair. I must say that I've never had an issue since those high school days with a man and my hair... I actually see my permie friends have more issues. Now IDK if its cause I live in DC, IDK if its cause I'm more confident, IDK if its cause I'm in better physical shape but I do know that I'm happily in a relationship with the literal man of my dreams...Who is natural himself, ha a natural family and wants one went we get married. SO, for me natural is a way of life!!!

Just plain distrubing

Hey y'all I know it's bee a minute but I have been working on a number of projects that have me super fill but I know I should prioritize more time for this cause I really am trying to be on Brunsli status! lol NE who I want to start out by giving my belated shout- out to MJ... The greatest that has and will ever be. Especially with the caliber of artist that is acceptable to be famous in this day and age. There just cannot ever be another man who will make and break the boundaries like his did and for that I know I'm grateful! I always felt a special tingle of lover for him because my birthday in the 30th of august and his is the 29th of august.... So a feel due to a similar cosmic swaggers I understand the huge public persona he depicts but realistically he was more reserved a shy being... Such a VIRGO trait! And I want to end my MJ spiel on this note.

PLEASE

Everyone stop watching and consuming MJ entertainment crap. One because all he ever wanted was to be left alone and two because they are taking two black male figures and defiling their legacy. I don't think Dr. Murray is a murderer just a caregiver that mad a mistake. Look at your Dr's record they all do. His is just more high-profile....Anywho I digress

AS FOR MY HAIR

My hair is coming along rather nicely if I do say so my self. and obviously I do! lol But I've made a number of different changes...Three C's to be exact: cut, combine and considering color! Well that's four but whateves! I wanted to give my hair a more even styled look so I decided to take the p,lunge and snip the ends. I'm sooo pleased with the results. Overall its helped give my hair a much need boost. I looks more like a style and I get complimented all the time. It looks like a blunt bob as I cut my ends. BTW I've had zero unraveling even on the ones I combine... So, don't let people lie to you...But my hair is also super nappy, so???

But as for my combining I love it! It's a lot better on my hair doing time and its helped a lot of at risk locks. I read NUBIANLOCKEDPRINCESS say there are some pluses and minuses to small locks... as I am learning. I'm ashamed to say in my Seven Month journey (woop woop) I've lost about 6 locks.... (shudder!!!!). But I ain't too mad at it cause my hair is growing like weeds and I've already restarted the ones that have been lost. I low key want a cool shaved look but I think I'm doing the most.

But, almost, to re-place my scissor happiness I want to color my hair. Something crazy like a few locks in green, blue or pink? But who knows I'll keep y'all posted on my ideas

All in all I just adore my locks and i can hardly wait to show y'all my hair when Its down my back and around my ankles. lol I'll never let it get there but you know what I mean. COMIC CON 2009

So my hunny and I decided to hit up the comic convention in San Diego this year... Mind you with no ticket, little money, three hour drive (with comic con traffic) and absolutely nowhere to stay. And the verdict: I WILL BE GOING AGAIN!!! It was super cool to see all the different comics and collectors and fans. My boyfriend is an artist and has some graphic novels in the works (defiantly keep y'all posted on that) so of course we had to make the obligatory trek to SD. We had a great time and he has some cool connections with some other brothas that had stands so they hooked up up with badges we had a ball! I'm a fine art lover but I defiantly got a feel for the popular art genre and what it initials. I even went to Chuck Jones' ( bugs bunny creator) gallery and got the card to the Director of the space! So exciting! Two things I had a gripe about was the lack of the Black female aesthetic... I know ladies are probably a rare niche but the Black female comic niche isn't humongous. But it still exists. Now I'm not saying some people aren't doing their part but there defiantly need to be much more black female comic books and cartoons! Storms holding us down but she can't do all the work. Hence, why me and him are going to collaborate on a story. Would y'all buy it? Would you have your daughters, grand-daughters, nieces, cousins, friends, etc.. buy it? Just asking... Oh and my second gripe was that we didn't bring the kids. He has a ten year old brother and the most beautiful 13 year old sister and I have a ten year old brother too...Sooo they woulda had a great time.. Oh well you live and you learn. Well I live y'all with some imagery of the first Black female cartoonist work, Ms. Jackie Ormes (google her baby). Their great and inspiring for my possibly comic.
